IBADAN AIRPORT UPGRADE: OGUNJOBI CONGRATULATES IBADAN, LAUDS MAKINDE'S EFFORTS

The people of Ibadan have been congratulated for the approval of President Tinubu for the upgrade of Ladoke Akintola Airport, formerly Ibadan Airport to international status.

The congratulatory message was made by Chief Abiodun Samuel Ogunjobi, popularly known as Te-Sojue.

According to Ogunjobi, who is the Asiwaju of Oje land, when completed, the Ibadan Airport will have a positive impact on commerce, economic activities and development in the region. It will also help decongest Muritala Mohammed Airport in Ikeja, Lagos.

“Economic activities and businesses around the Airport area in Alakia, Ibadan will also be enhanced.”

In his message, he also extolled the achievement of the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde in getting the approval of the President for the upgrade of the airport. It will complement the penchant of the governor for infrastructural development and urban renewal.

Investment in infrastructure, Ogunjobi said, is a lifetime investment and leaves a legacy for generations unborn.

The chief also noted that, all the regional capitals of old, Ibadan is about the only one without an international airport, and it is the only one that is not yet a state. These Ibadan people yearn for. Haven achieved one of the two, Te-Sojue prayed that Governor Makinde achieves the other landmark.

Ibadan Airport (IATA: IBA, ICAO: DNIB) is an airport serving Ibadan, the capital of the Oyo State of Nigeria. It was commissioned by Joseph Wayas, a former senate president of Nigeria, in June 1982.

The airport serves as the only other link, apart from Lagos, in the whole of South West Nigeria to other parts of the world.

Chief Abiodun Ogunjobi is a notable PDP leader in Ibadan North East Local Government area and holds the traditional title of Asiwaju of Oje land.

ONIDO: THE MANY ATROCITIES OF MURITALA GBOLAGADE BABALOLA Muritala Gbolagade first came to Ido as a worker in the farm of a prominent Ibadan Chief located in Ido local government. He was fortunate to have made money while working for the Chief. How he made so much money from his employer is debatable and shrouded in mystery. After leaving the farm he showed interest in investing in Ido. He built a house in Ilaju where he resides till date. Always with an eye for investors to help develop Ido, the then Onido, Benjamin Ishola Orobiyi II gave Gbolagade a chieftaincy title of Ashipa of Ido. Little did the Orobiyi know that he was giving honour to a criminal. Gbolagade, through bribery and subterfuge plotted to get to the throne of his benefactor. His intentions were not noble. His plan was to use the position to enhance his various nefarious activities. Before he was suspended on 2 nd February 2024, he was noted for many criminal activities, chief among which were: ...

ONIDO: DEVELOPMENT OF IDO, PAST AND PRESENT CONTRIBUTIONS

ONIDO:   DEVELOPMENT OF IDO, PAST AND PRESENT CONTRIBUTIONS Ido was founded by Agura, who was in the group that left Ile Ife with Oranmiyan to establish Old Oyo. On getting to the location in the forest, after consulting his Ifa priest he named the place Ido. Ido is today the headquarters of Ido Local Government. Ido is quite developed and still developing. Ido houses many government facilities and non-governmental development projects. New businesses, housing estates, medical facilities and schools dot the town. This has been made possible by contributions and sacrifices of past monarchs and royal families in Ido. When the Ibadan West District Council was established 5 th August 1961, with Ido as the headquarters the reigning Onido, Pa Yesufu Ladapo Orobiyi gave his farm land to the council freely. This selfless act   made it possible for the new council to settle down in Ido. The Local Government today stands on the Orobiyi Family land. Pa Lawani Dare O...
